FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Summer 2026

1. When is the swim team season?

2026 Season: May 4th - June 26th

Swim team runs from early May to the last week of June. Practice is run by our coaches. There is an awards banquet at the end of the season that will be held at the pool.

2. We are not Chimney Springs residents. Can my child still swim on the team?

Yes!  We have opened a limited number of spaces for swimmers that are not residents of Chimney Springs to join our swim team for the 2026 swim season.  We are very excited to welcome new swimmers to the team!  Non-resident swimmers must be between the ages of 5 and 18 and must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted.  Unfortunately, we cannot accept non-resident rookies at this time. Non-resident registration includes a $15 non-resident fee per swimmer.

3. What are the fees?

$ 150 for the first child in the family

$ 140 for the second child in the family

$ 130 for the third child in the family

* Registration fee includes team t-shirt, ribbons and trophies.

**Rookies: $90.00/swimmer: includes team t-shirt and a medal.

***Non-resident registration includes a $15 non-resident fee per swimmer.

4. Is my child old enough to be on the team?

Children who are age 5 by May 31st, and who are able to swim one length of the pool unassisted (Cobb County Summer League policy) are welcome to join the Sharks and participate in swim meets.

Children who are aged 4 by May 31st and/or who cannot yet swim one length of the pool unassisted may join our Rookie team. Our great coaches will make tremendous progress with our youngest swimmers in a surprisingly short time. Practices are conducted in small groups with an in-water and hands-on coach. There is a special Rookie meet at our pool the last day of the season. Advanced Rookies (age 5 and up) will gradually work up to a regular 6-u Sharks practice regimen and "graduate" when ready.

5. What time is practice?

Practice times are in the afternoon during school days and then in the mornings once Cobb County schools are closed. More detailed information can found on the website under the "Practices" tab.

6. When and where are the swim meets?

Please see the "Calendar - Swim Meet Info" Tab for specific information.

There will be 5 swim meets in the season, one per week. Some meets will be held at our home pool and some will be held at the other team's pool. Swim meets begin at 6pm sharp. Arrival time at the pool is 4:45pm at home meets and 5pm at away meets. The meet usually ends between 9-10 pm. Swim meet times and race schedules are determined by Cobb County and the meets are run by a county referee.

7. My child wants to come to swim practice but doesn't want to do meets. Is that OK?

Yes. There is no obligation to swim in the swim meets.

8. Is it OK if we have to miss a swim meet?

Yes, but please let the coaches know of any meets your swimmer will be missing. This is done by "declaring" your swimmer's availability on the schedule tab of this website. Coaches prepare the line up for a meet more than 48 hours in advance. We count on your swimmer being there, and so does the rest of the team. If an emergency occurs on the day of the meet, please message the coordinators directly.

9. Do I need to buy a team suit, and where do I get one?

If you child will be swimming in the meets, then we recommend that you buy a team suit. Rookies will not swim in the regular swim meets and therefore will not need a team suit, but you are certainly allowed to buy one if you wish! Boys must wear a tight fitting suit. Loose swim trunks are not allowed. A link to buy the team suit is available in the Team information Tab under "Swimsuits."

10. Will we have practice or swim meets if it's raining?

Practices -As a general rule we will not hold practices if it is thundering or lightning. We WILL swim in the rain! When possible we will notify swimmers as soon as a decision is made via REMIND text. If in doubt, please check your email/the Sharks FB page prior to practices for the latest update.

Meets- the same applies. If you do not receive notification, come ready to swim! We will try to get the meet in if at all possible. The Cobb County Referee will be the person responsible for making the decision to delay or cancel in the event of inclement weather during a meet.

11. Are private swim lessons available?

Individual swim lessons will be available from our coaches. See our head coach or swim coordinators for details.

12. Do I have to volunteer? I have small kids/my spouse travels/ I can't come to the meets...?

We rely on volunteers to make the swim meets happen. Please plan to volunteer for at least two shifts throughout the season. If you know you can't make the first meet, volunteer for the second meet. You may try to share duties with another family -- you watch their kids for the first shift, and they watch yours through the second. You may find that volunteering is a lot of fun and a great way to know the other families.

It takes A LOT OF PEOPLE to run a meet, and we expect that all families will volunteer each season.
